Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron. They are the same medicine: Foundayo is the brand, orforglipron the active ingredient.
Orforglipron is taken by mouth as a tablet, rather than by injection. It belongs to a group of medicines called GLP-1 receptor agonists.
The MHRA authorised orforglipron (Foundayo) on 10 August 2026, granted to Eli Lilly. The UK was the first country in Europe to do so.
Weight loss and weight maintenance in adults, and to improve blood sugar control in adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes.
A simple explanation of what this type of medicine does in the body.
GLP-1 is a hormone your body releases after eating. Orforglipron acts on the same receptors that hormone works on.
Acting on those receptors influences the signals involved in hunger and feeling full, which can affect how much a person eats.
It is authorised for use together with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not on its own.
Individual responses to any medicine differ. Whether a treatment is appropriate, and what it may achieve, is a matter for a clinical assessment.
Taken by mouth once a day, at any time of day.
It can be taken at any time of day with no food or water restrictions.
It can only be supplied on a prescription. It is not available over the counter.
A pharmacist-led clinical assessment is needed before any treatment can be considered.
The MHRA authorisation for weight management covers adults who meet the criteria below.
These criteria describe who the medicine is authorised for. They do not decide whether it is right for any individual.
Final suitability requires an appropriate clinical assessment that takes account of your full medical history, other medicines you take and your general health. A prescriber may conclude that this treatment is not appropriate for you.
The MHRA information sets out a step-up schedule, starting at the lowest dose.
The MHRA information states a minimum of one month at each dose level.
This page is general information. It is not dosing advice for any individual. A prescriber decides the dose and any change to it, and you should never adjust a prescribed dose yourself.
Like all medicines, orforglipron can cause side effects. The MHRA lists these as common.
This is not a complete list of side effects. Anyone prescribed this medicine should read the patient information leaflet supplied with it.
If you are considering any weight-management treatment, or you are taking a medicine and have side effects that concern you, speak to an appropriate healthcare professional. Our pharmacist team is available to answer questions.
